Sagging headliners

ID #1087

My 1993 Cadillac Deville headliner is sagging about half way back. Can I fix it without taking the liner out? What is up there anyways? When the weather is warm it shrinks up but doesn't stay up when it gets cold. Can it be reglued or ??

The headliner is sagging because the cloth has turned loose from the foam. The headliner material (a thin knitted material) and a thin layer of foam are laminated (glued) together to make headliner material. Over a period of time, the material will come loose from the foam. Only one way to fix it, take the headliner out and replace the headliner material. The reason it tightens up when it is hot is because the material will contract in the heat - means nothing as far as fixing itself, you will have to do that. Eventually, the whole thing will come down and be hanging on your head.

You can follow this link to see what is up there, basically a fiberglass headliner board. This link will take you to an 89 Cadillac we replaced the headliner in.
